imageMississippi signed into law the Youth Concussion Law last week. The purpose of the new law is to educate and protect young athletes at public and private schools throughout Mississippi.

Under the new law, schools must adopt a concussion management and return to play policy. The parents will receive and sign a copy the policy each season. And if an athlete reports or shows concussion symptoms she will be immediately removed from the game or practice. The athlete shall be evaluated by a qualified medical provider. If the injury is indeed a concussion, the athlete will not return to play until cleared by her doctor.
