Michelle's Farm Snow
Lawrence Farm this Morning

Once again Mississippi finds itself coated with powdery white stuff, ice and cold temperatures and the questions about homeowners’ insurance covering damage from frozen pipes begin to surface.

Echoing a post from a few weeks ago, there’s good news!  Most home insurance policies cover water damage caused by frozen pipes.  Though each policy is different, generally a homeowner will need to show that she took measures to prevent the pipe from freezing. This can be as simple as showing that the water was shut off or that the heat was on if your house was unoccupied.

Most coverage will cover the cost to repair the broken pipe, and any related water damage to the home and property.

If your pipes freeze and leaked water, turn off the water at the street and contact your insurance agent for the details of your particular policy.
